Contemporary finishes with old-Queensland charm
The team at Black Developments will never shy away from a challenge, which is why we were thrilled by the opportunity to rejuvenate this classic Paddington Queenslander. The aim was to keep the original character and charm of the home while adding a twist of modern finishes and details, while working around the tricky foundations of a 690-square-metre sloping block. A 10-metre-long custom glass roof and impeccable blackwood veneer joinery are just some of the standout features on this impressive project.
Mid-century Palm Springs modernism
This high-set house located in the quiet outer northern suburbs of Brisbane has made quite the impression, with its distinct style earning it the 2018 AIA Brisbane Regional Award. Typical of its style, the primary upper floor living areas were disconnected from the yard, whilst under the house was not at a legal height for habitable rooms – challenges our team wholeheartedly took on. This is an exciting new house design for inspiring clients, with decorative brick, hovering roofs, light-filled spaces and mid-century Palm Springs modernism colliding in Geebung, Brisbane.More

We engaged Tim to build our ‘forever home’ after an exhaustive tender process with several different builders. One of the other builders came in a bit lower on pricing, but Tim’s attention to detail on the tender was superior and we felt that that would probably also hold true for the build itself. We also wanted someone who we could work with, not against, when problems arose (as is inevitable on any build). Our initial meetings with Tim gave us the confidence that he would do exactly that.
Our build is now complete and we are confident we entrusted it to the right person. The various challenges that arose were worked through together, not adversarially, and the end product is the beautiful home that Tim promised us throughout. Tim and his team were a pleasure to deal with during the build. They kept us well informed and had the expertise to conceive solutions for any problem they encountered. We very much appreciated that Tim was not willing to compromise on quality or cut corners to save time and he was always wholly focused on doing whatever it took to ensure we were happy with the end result.
We have since recommended Tim to many others and we will continue to do so.
